Production, cultivation and traceability

We produce voacangine from the leaves of a proprietary Voacanga variety. This fast-growing shrub can be harvested year-round, allowing us to expand production. Our plantations are typically intercropped within existing coconut plantations.

We grow and process the leaf material ourselves, then purify the voacangine by preparative chromatography at multi-kilogram scale. Direct control of cultivation and processing simplifies traceability.

Our own cultivation removes reliance on imported biomass and the export restrictions that can interrupt its supply. It also reduces exposure to biomass price fluctuations.

Voacangine and botanical research

Voacangine is an indole alkaloid. Researchers have isolated it from the leaves of Voacanga foetida.1 Further research has examined alkaloid distribution in this species.2
