The Phylochem Process

We produce extracts of different levels of purity and performance, for example:

Extraction Process

  1. Crude extracting using simple solvent extraction. Assays can vary from less than 1% to over 30% depending on the the compound of interest and the solvents and methods used.
  2. Further extraction and purification such as acid-base extraction, may increases the purity. Depending on the compound of interest and the technique assays may reach over 80%.
  3. Purification to high levels is typically done with chromatography. Levels from 80% to over 99% can be achieved.
  4. Post extraction processing can modify the properties of the extract such as converting to the desired salt or freebase form, gamma irradiation, terminal sterilizing by filtration, drying to remove the water of hydration, and grinding to altering the particle size.

Information about the advanced technology and equipment used in the extraction process

Industry Standard Vacuum Concentration
We use the industry standard approach of using vacuum during concentration. Applying a vacuum during solvent concentration can significantly improve herbal extraction yields by lowering the boiling point of the solvent, which allows it to evaporate at a much lower temperature. Here’s how this benefits the extraction process:
  1. Preserves Heat-Sensitive Compounds
    • Many phytochemicals, such as alkaloids, flavonoids, and essential oils, can degrade or lose potency at high temperatures. By using a vacuum to lower the boiling point, you can evaporate the solvent without subjecting these compounds to potentially damaging heat, preserving the integrity and yield of the active constituents.
  2. Reduces Oxidation
    • The vacuum environment reduces the presence of oxygen, which can cause oxidative degradation of some sensitive phytochemicals. This helps in maintaining the quality and yield of the extracts.
  3. Prevents Loss of Volatile Compounds
    • Vacuum concentration minimizes the loss of volatile compounds, which can easily evaporate at higher temperatures. This ensures that more of these valuable components are retained in the final extract.
  4. Speeds Up the Process
    • The reduced pressure allows the solvent to evaporate faster, shortening the concentration time and reducing the risk of thermal degradation over prolonged heating periods.
Overall, using a vacuum during solvent concentration improves the efficiency of the extraction process, leading to higher yields and better preservation of the delicate phytochemicals.
Enzyme-Assisted Extraction (EAE)
Enzyme-Assisted Extraction (EAE) improves the efficiency of extracting valuable compounds from plants. EAE involves using specific enzymes to break down the plant cell walls, making it easier to extract important compounds like alkaloids and flavonoids. This method is effective and helps us get more out of the raw materials.

Our EAE process is straightforward and uses fewer chemicals, which makes it more environmentally friendly. By avoiding high temperatures and harsh conditions, we preserve the natural properties of the compounds, resulting in higher quality extracts.

We have advanced EAE know how that can handle different types of plant materials. This allows us to produce consistent and pure extracts for various industries, including pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and cosmetics. Our focus on practical and sustainable extraction methods helps us provide better products to our customers.
Solid-Liquid Extraction (SLE)
Solid-Liquid Extraction (SLE) is a common method used in our company to extract valuable compounds from plant materials. In this process, a solvent is used to dissolve the desired compounds from the solid plant material. The plant material is immersed in the solvent, allowing the active ingredients to be drawn out into the liquid.

SLE is straightforward and versatile, making it suitable for a wide range of plant types. We use this method to efficiently extract alkaloids, flavonoids, and other phytochemicals. Our process is carefully controlled to ensure maximum extraction while maintaining the quality of the compounds.

We utilize modern equipment to optimize the SLE process, ensuring that we achieve consistent results with high yields. This method is essential for producing reliable and high-quality extracts that are used in various industries, including pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and cosmetics. SLE is a key part of our commitment to delivering effective natural products.
Zero Waste and Zero Solvent Emission
We are committed to achieving zero waste and zero solvent emissions in our extraction processes. We’ve designed our operations to minimize environmental impact by recycling solvents and reusing plant materials whenever possible.

Our advanced extraction systems are engineered to capture and recycle solvents, preventing them from being released into the environment. This not only reduces waste but also cuts down on the need for fresh solvent, making our process more efficient and eco-friendly.

Additionally, we focus on utilizing every part of the plant material. After extraction, the remaining biomass is repurposed for other applications, such as bioenergy or composting, ensuring that nothing goes to waste.

By implementing zero waste and zero solvent emission practices, we are able to offer high-quality, natural extracts while staying true to our commitment to environmental responsibility.
